98°C on AIDA Stress Test | i5-13600KF + Dark Rock Pro 4

Hi r/overclocking,

I've just upgraded my system from i7-7700k -> i5-36000KF and I wanted to see how my CPU temps are by using the AIDA64 Stress Test.

The items were discounted so I spent around ~500€ for Mainboard, CPU and RAM.

Knowing that Intel has some issues with their 13/14th gen CPUs, I thought since the 13600 isn't as power hungry as a 13-/4700K or 13-/4900K I thought I'd give it a go.

I've updated the BIOS to the current version provided on the support page before doing anything on the system.

Here is the current rig:

  • Case: bequiet! Dark Base 700
  • Mainboard: MSI MAG Tomahawk WIFI (bought for 185€)
  • CPU: Intel i5-13600KF (bought for 210€)
  • GPU: AMD 6900XT
  • CPU Cooler: bequiet! Dark Rock Pro 4
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (CMH32GX5M2B6400C32)
  • Chassis Fans:
    • 2x Front (3x 140mm possible)
      • bequiet! Silent Wings 3 (came with case)
      • bequiet! Silent Wings 4 (bought for additional airflow)
    • 1x Back
      • bequiet! Silent Wings 3 (came with case) (positioned right behind CPU Cooler)
  • Storage:
    • 1x 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD 1 TB (OS)
    • 1x 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD 2 TB
    • Bunch of SSDs and believe it or not: 1x HDD 1TB (straight to jail)

This is how it looks right now:

I'm thinking about replacing the the Silent Wings 3 on the back with the 4 on the front because it has a higher max rpm and probably can blow out more air?

When I was testing in AIDA, these were my results: (for some reason it only lets you save a png of the current values which is super strange)

AIDA64 stress test temp reached 98°C – at this point I decided to just stop it

My CPU Voltage reached a max of 1.4V

Another worry I didn't know I should have is mainboard temps. When playing Apex Legends, they reached >65°C, which according to CPU-Z is a bad thing?

Temps after playing Apex for 10m

Is there any values I should change for the CPU in my UEFI?

I tried changing CPU Core Voltage to 0.92V but it didn't boot properly

I could probably provide better benchmarking/temperature results of stress tests. If you have any recommendations for benchmarking software I could use please let me know. AIDA64 has TRIAL VERSION on many values…

According to this video: https://youtu.be/ZEzgbKHVOHM?si=J-6O4ICoJiQAZW2v&t=29 The Silent Wings 4 has 2 modes:

  1. S= decoupled and high pressure (what does decoupled mean?)
  2. L = High air flow and maxiumum quietness

Since I don't really know the advantage, I've just used them as they came so not sure if it's S or L right now…

Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time.

I’d go for a locked all core OC to avoid degradation issues.

It’s this single/low core boosting to 1.4v+ nonsense that causes this.
