I put almost a whole tube tube of thermal paste on a friend’s cpu when I built it because I wanted to fuck with him.
Although it was a little one that came with the cooler, but still an excessive amount.

Honestly, not a problem.
As long as it’s not conductive paste, it’s better too much than too little.
Personally I also tend to go heavy on thermal paste, I prefer to spend 5 minutes cleaning my CPU every 2 or 3 years when I change it and guarantee I have full coverage.
