This technology appeared earlier, for example, it was on the PS3, but it was not used in the same way there. The most convenient option is when there is an activation button when the aiming is clamped.
By the way, with Steam, you can literally customize any game for the gyroscope.

  2. I still think mouse is vastly superior for aiming, but this is a good step in the right direction

I wish I could use gyro aiming nuts sadly my hands are like someone gave meth and coffee to a Chihuahua

could we finally get a workable RTS game on console with this? My PC gaming life is long gone but I miss me some C&C and StarCraft!

Mouse is probably still a little more stable and consistent since you are resting on a flat solid surface, but yeah it’s pretty neat tech honestly.

This seems fine, but aiming with this still won’t be as easy with a mouse, like how do you turn your character around with this? How do you flick? This is just a gimmick, and maybe useful when exploring menus and such.

  7. look what they need to replicate a fraction of our power

    “of the latest consoles”

You mean the Wii U? Or perhaps the 3DS?

I found that for me having a way to toggle gyro aiming was the key to actually it being useful. In steam input, for FPS games I’d usually enable gyro aiming for when the left trigger is fully pressed. This way, I can control for movements that aren’t meant to be inputs, such as just adjusting my own position. So basically for exploration, it’s stick camera, but for aiming it’s gyro. Works for me so much better that regular stick aiming is just not an option anymore.

  11. I think for aiming gyro should be kept to fine adjustments after using the right stick. This shown here, might be good for UI and non locked mouse games. Else something like flick stick or just right stick + gyro fine adjustment is better suited for aiming.

  12. Instead of moving a cursor on a black screen go into Aim Trainer and try to compete with an actual mouse.

    Hmm, I see possibilities here.

It’s still not great for FPS games as every shot has to be a flick shot, since hovering in the middle is nearly impossible without a significant dead zone.

For games like Everspace this would be fantastic.

For menu navigation, top down games and even RTS I think this would be brilliant.

Looks like he’s using a camera from the 90’s

it’s kinda annoying tbh but it was a little nice sometimes with making minute adjustments. Played around with it a bit in dragons dogma 2.

i mean, the remove of my tv can do this for like 5+ years now. and it wasn’t even the price of a console.

Its not really new but yeah gyro aiming is great. The only console I own is a Switch and for playing zelda botw/totk or spatoon gyro aiming makes aiming feel so much more precise and natural than using (only) the joystick.

  18. I’ve used this ever since the Vita days (not sure about PSP) and it’s definitely not as easy as using a mouse. Even the trackpads of the Steam Deck don’t come close.

Nice, an even faster way to to drain the battery in your controller.

Finally the tilting of the controller could actually do something.

I have a hard time geting used to the gyro, I also get confused about left and right, my brain wants to tilt the stick instead of pointing the stick

Didn’t this used to be a thing as far back as the PS3? Not a lot of games used the feature, but I remember Lair (a game where you were a dragon rider) used gyroscopic controls. It just always struck me as kind of a gimmicky feature.

Gyroscopic aiming is like finally unlocking aim assist for my thumbs. I might actually stand a chance now.
