For the spiritual origin of all things Cyberpunk, find a copy of William Gibson’s set of short stories titled Burning Chrome. Obvious origins for a lot of the lore, and some of the characters. Lizzy Wizzy for example, seems heavily inspired by Lise, with her dependence on cybernetic augmentations and addiction to a drug called Wizz. Johnny Mnemonic takes place in Night Town. The kind of business that goes on in The House of Blue Lights.
The tone of it all. The devastation of making it in this goddamned place.
I was able to check out a digital copy from my library. Do yourself the favor.

I read it too! The beginning and middle part was awesome the ending I didn’t love. (Not because it wasn’t a happily ever after, it is Cyberpunk after all)

But I would love more CP books in the future!
