Was playing games when all of a sudden my computer crashed and I smelled something burning. My heart sank as I did some investigating and found the culprit. One of the 8 pin power connectors for my 7800xt completely fried. Fingers crossed the GPU is okay, I have to find my PSU's cables to be sure, but my hopes aren't high. I knew they had issues with GPU power connectors in the past but I didn't pay much attention to it as the issues were with Nvidia GPUs and the 12V high-power adaptors or whatever. I guess I'll reach out to cablemod and Sapphire and see what we can do but this sucks.

why you dont use your psu cables instead of third party cables?
Anytime I see cablemod posts, something is always on fire.
Post it also in the cablemod sub here. There is always support that helps getting you refunded

I’ve only ever heard bad things about their right-angle 12VHPWR adapters. I haven’t had any issues with their cables. It’s especially surprising to see problems with the tried-and-true 8-pin PCIe connector. I wonder where the fault was in this case.
Wear gloves, the PC has a virus
I had something very similar happen with my xtx they sent new cables but I ended up just using my PSU cables and it was fine.
Update: Found my PSU’s cables and swapped them for Cablemod’s with the same result. GPU is toast. 😞
Is this an old one or is the new batch bad as well?
