2026 is the same except that there’s two additional events, both are to be held in São Paulo and Barcelona.

No open qualifiers for any events? Ew

Love seeing Argentina, AND they have partnered with FiRe so it’s definitely a good place to have staple events in South America. More South America is a W, especially with the teams in the region getting stronger and more competitive
But man, No events in Asia (excluding China ) and NA once again. Was holding out hope thinking PGL might be different but guess things won’t change anytime soon for the long foreseeable future. I’m kind of losing hope for a global CS circuit like VALORANT ngl

I like that basically the only incentive they have for teams to play there is the prize money, instead of some bs like Blast’s Frequent fliers program. Sad to see there aren’t any open qualis though

Does this follow the valve rules for tournaments? The structure seemed at odds with the ruleset to me.
Looked into the specific wording: TO “may” invite half of the main event teams directly and skip the closed qualifier. So PGL are using the group stage as the “closed qualifier” and the Playoffs as the “main event” where no team gets a direct invite.
And the 1.5x rule is similarly adhered to, if the 8 team playoffs are the main event they only need to invite 12 teams total. 16 invitations covers that.

I’m wondering if European teams might start skipping tournaments that are far away from them now that they’re not contractually obligated to attend. Will give them more practice time and less stress
