When I came back from college my old laptop had fallen off my shelf when someone opened my closet and when I went to power it on, it flashed the windows 98 bootup screen. Since then whenever I power it on, it does that. Is there an explanation? I'm just curious as to why it would do that. I thought it was really funny

Someone tried to install Windows 98 on it
It does not play nicely on modern hardware
this is the DeLorean of laptops. If you overclock it to 8.8Ghz, you can go back in time and sleep with your own mom.
Who had access to it?
Was it someone with IT curiosity?
That thing has win98 on it.
Some “lunatic” installed it.
If possible, take out hdd/ssd and check for the files on another pc for traces [when did that happen?]
What if somebody try to install Windows 98 because it was one of the least secure operating systems that Microsoft ever made ..
Simple answer, You have multiple bootable partitions. One of which is a broken Win98.
Your win10 OS might not be on the primary partition so you want to make sure you delete the correct one.
Is that a refurbished machine? I used to run a small win 98 data wipe image on machines before sending them to auction at my old job.
Windows ~~98!~~ 10! Windows 10!!
Or, someone set a custom BIOS boot Image for shits and giggles
Your PC has too much memory. You need to do some workarounds to install Windows 98 on a machine with so much ram.
They gave you an old hard drive that has win98…
Ghost of Girlfriends Past
if someone actually dropped it, it may have jostled and ssd or a hdd connection loose. it really looks like someone tried to put win 98 on it while you were gone though, which I know sounds weird, but that’s literally the only way it would flash a win 98 screen at you since this came with win 7 pre installed. someone is lying to you. your parents tried to have it fixed or something
