And to think I went like 20+ years without ever having to purchase the license.

  2. notsureifxml

    I don’t care I’ll still install it

    7zip ftw!

I don’t use Windows zip features, wouldn’t use them for rar either.

Microsoft is getting desperate. they will do anything to get people on the shitty windows 11 with integrated ads and sell more of their users data than we could ever fear.

7zip for all my archive needs.

But windows solution when cou can ctrl+c and close the zip folder tab without losing the copied data to ram was a big weakness of WinRar that I’m glad Microsoft took care of

Depends on how far it supports rar files.
Could be a read-only type of implementation like they did with iso files.

meh i still use winrar and 7zip , better utilities

  9. StLCards1985

Had my license for 15+ years and will continue to use. I like the simplicity.

I’m curious and never really thought about it. Is there a reason Windows hasn’t natively supported the RAR extension?

I still wont use Windows solution for RAR files. WinRAR, VLC, ACDSee, and WinAMP will forever be installed until they no longer work. I hate all of Windows built in archive and media viewers\players

Neat. I liked when they added support for iso files, didnt have to mess with third party apps for them.

  13. Non_Volatile_Human

Knowing Microsoft, they’ll fuck it up somehow and spend sometime fixing it

  14. El_Mariachi_Vive

Damn, almost makes me want to pay for WinRAR now after all those years. :’)

  15. TheDugal

How did it took that long?

Maybe I should go buy a license just to throw the guy a bone. I think he deserves it for his services.

  16. S0_B00sted

Don’t you still need WinRAR to create RAR archives? 3rd party programs have been able to extract them for a while.

  17. TheMercilessHobo

People still used winrar when 7zip exists?

  18. horneymilfinyourarea

    I’ll delete System32 before I delete winRAR

  19. forlornself

7zip is still superior in terms of functionality imo. I don’t think I’ll be switching anytime soon.

  20. Ghazter

That’s cool and all but I’ll stick to win10 with 7zip

  21. The_Anf

Pretty sure this will suck ass as much as built in .zip support. Whenever I try to open a big .zip file using explorer.exe this shit just freezes when 7zip or winrar works perfectly

  22. pelosnecios

winrar has been with me for years, now I will be with him and actually pay the license.

besides it has features that make it very useful for me.

I dont use Win 11 (obsolete cpu) but pretty sure I would stick with winrar, windows Zip incorporation has always been shite, I do appreciate windows built in daemon tools though.

  24. No_Cicada_7867

Might just buy a winrar license after all these years just to say thanks

  25. Ok_Worth4113

now haters come and say win 10 is better 💀
