Currently playing MGS 5 and the last few missions make me realise the piece of art this game is. Made me think of all the endgame moments where i started feeling empty for some time. What are more such stories and gaming experiences
In KOTOR2 when you can apologize to Atris. In games with dialogue choices it’s rare to ever have an option to say you’re sorry. The part that fucks with me is it’s not tagged as a “light side” choice, like the writers think even a Sith Lord can apologize sometimes

Disco Elysium was a weird game like that. There is a point where you get to a new part of the map with some really heavy music that for some reason inspired a near existential crisis. If you are going to play that game even the first 5 minutes of the game feel like a heavy depression coming to get you.

Nier automata, though the very end end is somewhat uplifting. The meaninglessness of it all got to me.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the ONLY game to make me feel empty inside. Dedicated months of my life when it released and I had just started university. Then I completed it, got the platinum trophy, and thought “well what do I do now?”

RDR2: Arthur getting TB near the end and all of your food and stuff now not being able to heal you. Wasn’t expecting something like that and knowing the end was near for this person you spent a bunch of time with.

Ghost of Tsushima, I think anyone who has finished the game can testify how incredible yet sad the ending is

that sweeping shot in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag was wonderful and it had such a likable player character with Edward Kenway. Matt Ryan did a hell of a job playing him

RDR2 – really the whole ending is so sad, but especially when Arthur says goodbye to Abigail and Sadie and you start to really feel the end hanging over you

Persona 4 Golden when you’re saying goodbye to you’re friends and they chase after the train with the main menu theme playing in the background made me sad and realise how little friends I have lol

It may be cheating but To The Moon broke me. I haven’t sobbed that hard in a long time.
Like a Dragon Gaiden the man who erased his name also got me good. As soon as you see what’s on the phone Kiryu gets handed the waterworks started. I was not prepared for a story that beautiful and sad in a Yakuza side game.

The late game sequence in Mad Max has him making a series of crazy and selfish decisions that get other people killed.
In the final battle he betrays and sacrifices his only friend and magnificent war machine in a kamikaze attack that doesn’t even work.

Anyone who made it to Gwyn in DS1 knows the feeling of entering that boss room expecting a badass musical piece – only to hear a slow piano instead.
A duel between the Chosen Undead and a man who is nothing more than a mindlessly hollowed husk of his former self.
It’s a total contrast from the loud symphonies and choirs heard throughout the game.

I was fortunate to avoid the bad ending in The Witcher 3, but I’ve watched it on YouTube and it absolutely wrecked me! I can’t imagine playing through that game only to lose >!Ciri!< in the end. the bond between Gerald and >!Ciri!< is the backbone of the entire game, and I’ve never felt such a connection between two characters in a game.

The Last of Us 2. I was pretty sad with the lead up to the final fight. I didn’t want it to happen. Both characters had grown on me, and i understood why both did what they did, but I knew it was coming.

I’m a 35yo man, and I cry like a baby every time I get to the end of RDR2. Alexander’s fate is also sad, but I’m almost happy for him at the same time.
