I feel like an ancient pharao when people say they feel old for ripping music from YouTube.

  3. Cmon dude I used to rip cds and make MP3s via command prompt.

  4. gnocchicotti

I rip CDs because the Internet is for losers

  5. MuzzledScreaming

Shit, I was downloading MP3s and burning CDs before YouTube was a pipe dream.

  6. Limewire, Kazaa, soulseek or even just plain ol’ ftp servers.

  7. TheBearerOfTheSpoon

Napster, Limewire and Realplayer just didn’t exist I guess.

Downloading songs via Kazaa or Limewire was always exciting. Would you get that sound clip of Bill Clinton, a virus, pornography or Shrek? No way to verify and it was a risk we were all willing to take.

Yt-dlp using ffmpeg would like a word. Allows me to download entire youtube channels worth of mp3 files. Currently have the entire library of Electronic Gems, Trap Wolves, Trap Nation, Lofi Girl, Monstercat and NCS on my pc, with more to come. Also allows you to save which video’s you’ve already downloaded, so you can run the executable periodically to get all the latest tracks!

Still do it, and can also do it with Spotify songs.

I’ll always have dem files offline on my devices.

I remember using MP3Rocket on my mom’s old win7 laptop. I still kinda miss it tbh

  13. robo__sheep

When I was a kid I was ripping my music CDs with MusicMatch Jukebox

Youngling. The OG Way was Napster with a 56k Modem.

  15. memphis_dude

If you don’t mind the quality being capped at 128kbps.

  16. OfficialDeathScythe

Og? You must have been after limewire 💀

    You mean Napster?

    I’m not old, you’re just inexperienced. :p

If you don’t hate the command line, yt-dlp is a really versatile tool for downloading stuff from YouTube. Mp3tag is then a very useful gui tool for editing file metadata.

  19. OG way? I still get my music this way in my mid-20’s lmao.

  20. u/Captain0010 You really made a second version of this meme with a different viewing angle? 😀

  21. PlaguedByUnderwear

The OG way? Is “using limewire and accidentally infecting the family computer” just a joke to you youngsters or something?
