    Ocean Beach Hotel: Vampire Bloodlines.

The Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time. Might not be as bad to play now that I’m an adult. But kid me hated going anywhere near it. The moans of the Redeads were enough to cause nightmares.

As an aside – it’s a great piece of dark history fleshed out in an otherwise tonally different game.

The Batman museum in Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League.

Every minute of Dark Souls. It is more tense than even horror games. Except Firelink Shrine of course.

  5. Nerd-man24

Joker’s run sequence in ME2. Absolutely terrifying watching the whole crew get taken, and if you make a wrong move, they get you too.

  6. Define great.

Max Payne LSD trip blood trail was as disturbing as it was annoying

A Hat in Time is a wonderful game that draws inspiration from platformers like Super Mario Sunshine

The fourth act in the third chapter has you go to a Manor called Queen Vanessa’s manor and let’s just say this is where shit gets real, real quick

The blue tinged vault in Fallout 3.

  9. kazarbreak

The hotel level in Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. It’s an older game but the ocean house hotel level freaked me the fuck out the first time I played through it. Makes you forget that you’re actually playing a vampire.

Zero 2 fight from Kirby Crystal Shards (or other final boss from kirby)

  12. QuailTechnical5143

The Scarcrow sections in Arkham Asylum

  13. PinkRudeTurtle

MGS 5. Those moments when you watch prologue to the mission and your eyes catch “The Skulls” in the credits were terrifying.

When you’re about to drown in Sonic the Hedgehog and the music starts playing

The dead lands in Bug Fables. There is a giant creature watching out for you in the background. If it spots you it will try to drop a smaller but still difficult enemy on top of you, like it’s toying with you and wants to watch you fight for its amusement. You’ll never fight the giant though or get a good look at it, you’ll only see its eyes and arms.

  16. When I was young seeing castle town as grown up link in OoT always scared me

The Metro series maintains a very ominous tone but the library scared me so bad when i first played it

  18. RaccoonsPlease

The Pink Forest in Satisfactory, or any cave

In one of the older Mario games( I forgot which one though) there was a secret level that brought you to this arena that was filled with boos and with I think an old broken ship. Its a pretty creepy secret in a old non-horror game such as Mario.

The Outerwilds DLC. I devoured the original game, but I’m not a horror fan and had to question if I even wanted to finish the DLC.

    I’d include these:

    * The Haunted Cathedral in Thief: The Dark Project.
    * Robbing the Cradle from Thief 2: The Metal Age.
    * Shalebridge Cradle from Thief 3: Deadly Shadows.

  22. IVIaedhros

The brood nest sequence in Dragon Age: Origins.

Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone last third

The Abyssal Woods in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

The Shalebridge Cradle from Thief: Deadly Shadows

Baulder’s Gate 3 if you go for a maximally evil run.

The Last of Us 1 and 2 at various points.

  23. donarumo

That one house in Hogwarts Legacy, the one that gets you your shop.

  24. RD_Life_Enthusiast

White Phosphorous – SpecOps: The Line

  25. BackwoodsPhoenix

I would consider the Black Book sections of Skyrim to be horror adjacent at the very least. The guys that are practically invisible and all the rearranging of the rooms definitely felt disconcerting to me.

  26. CoMaBlitz

The Return to the Mount Chiliad Nuclear Silo in GTA Online

  27. CoffeeForTheAdmiral

The Gilding quest in The Forgotten City.

  28. Dangerous-Spend3924

Halo 1 library and Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty dlc when you side with Reed over Songbird.

    Welcome to Ravenholme

I’d say when I played through Republic Commando’s Ghost Ship missions it was pretty scary the first few times around.
