still havent gotten used to the new naming structure…

Nice, dropped 80 watts and lost 3 fps. Can get the same effect by underclocking a 14900k by 100-200mhz gg Intel.
Alauzhen
Huh? Did Intel just give up?
Scytian
So they removed HT to get better single core performance and still failed to beat previous generation in gaming? That’s huge blunder, hope it’s fake because I don’t want single company to dominate desktop CPU market too.

120W 7800X3D and this. Intel should just give up on efficient gaming.
Careless-Midnight-63
Another wasted generation, 9800x3d is my last hope.

Didn’t knew i9-14900k takes 500W+, that’s crazy
brotouski101
Holy moly. Massive AMD W.
Mathberis
The 14900k was already slow, jeesus.

Lets hope Intel wil feel their incompetence in their wallets. They have been a shitty company from the start. Especially with all the bribes and just plain ignoring elephants in the room.
Eziolambo
So in 285K, 285 is the no. of frames ?
Rgrr1
Well, seems like 7800x3d is not going to get cheaper anytime soon
Kindly_Extent7052
Man, just give up already. I hope AMD doing this comeback with GPU market. And intel foucs on GPU also.
Sandrasdog
AMD dominance could bore fans..

Maybe they want to bring back consumer overclocking, where the option is there, but at stock they will be cool and energy efficient. The reputation of Intel chips being power hungry and hot, might be something they want to shake off
saxovtsmike
Seems to be like what AMD did from 7xxx to 9xxx, with the exception that we do not know yet what 9800x3d will provide
elliotborst
I’m no Intel fan but similar FPS and a 80w less power is somewhat of a win. At least they aren’t going higher in power draw. Anyway it’s way too early to tell
Va1crist
Big upgrade costs for little to no gains

Seems pretty bad tbh, very productivity oriented but probably terrible in terms of price/performance for gaming applications compared to AMD. Kind of a shame considering that AMD too fumbled quite a bit.
Lt_Muffintoes
Before or after the degradation?

Do games really get CPU bottlenecked these days? (On a system where “only” half of the budget is in the GPU)
Personal_Pin_5312
You don’t buy these chips for gaming. They are suited for single core performance and workstations. The same goes for the i9-13900 and i9-14900 chips.
psihopats
Hope they improve next gen more. I don’t want to pay 1000$ for AMD CPU.
TheBlack_Swordsman
Well looks like 7800X3D prices aren’t going to go down …
