Consolidation in the video game industry is getting out of hand… Soon all of our games will come from 2 – 3 giant corporations that need to appease their shareholders with profits over creativity.

    How the mighty have fallen.
I remember how as a kid that UbiSoft logo with the rainbow when running a new game would pretty much guarantuee that I bought a high quality and fun piece of software.

Hopefully something changes. Ubisoft has been a disaster as of late!

  4. **From the article:**

“*The Chinese tech company and Guillemot Brothers Ltd. have been speaking with advisers to help explore ways to stabilize Ubisoft and bolster its value, the people said, who asked not to be identified discussing a private matter. One of the possibilities being discussed would involve teaming up to take the company private, according to the people.*

*Considerations are at an early stage and there’s no certainty they will lead to a transaction. Tencent and the Guillemot family are also considering other alternatives, according to the people.*

*Spokespeople for Ubisoft and the Guillemot family declined to comment. A representative for Tencent couldn’t immediately comment during a holiday week in China.*

*Several private equity firms including Blackstone Inc. and KKR & Co. were studying potential bids for Ubisoft in 2022 amid a flurry of large deals in the video game industry, Bloomberg News reported at the time. Later that year, the founding family partnered with Tencent, which bought 49.9% of the Guillemot Brothers holding company in addition to the direct stake it held in Ubisoft.*

*The deal was seen by analysts as a way of keeping suitors at bay, allowing the brothers to remain in control of the Ubisoft’s governance with Tencent’s stake capped below 10% with no operational veto rights. Under the deal, Tencent also couldn’t sell its shares in Ubisoft for five years, after which the Guillemot family has the right of first refusal.*

*The pact still allows the brothers to talk and work with whoever they want, Ubisoft Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot said in an interview last year.*”

Assassin’s Creed Gacha, here we go.

  6. And someone was asking who launched hate campaign against Ubisoft.

  7. They and Nintendo are becoming the Disney of videogames.

Tencent because they buy everything and run it to the ground.

Nintendo just sueing everyone everywhere over intelectual property.

    Insane.

Ah yes the best tactic, make a company that’s too corporate MORE corporate. Now instead of making soulless games with outdated mechanics and engines they can make soulless games with outdated mechanics and engines on a time crunch to appease even more shareholders! It’s brilliant and will undoubtedly completely fix Ubisoft. /s

Alternatively, dissolve the company and sell IPs. Let the devs go work on something they won’t waste their talent on and give the IPs to aco play who actually wants to make good games with them.

Ah good old corporate consolidation. That always leads to better times, what with less competition in the market, job losses due to redundancy, and high probabilities that due to the expansion of the buyer they will become even LESS risk adverse and unwieldier structurally so everything will both become more generic AND less competently produced. The best timeline.

I came to these comments to find out how I feel about this. Mixed feelings, looks like.

I just heaved a sigh that lasted 10 seconds.

    Sisters wedding ❌ ubisoft’s downfall ✅

  13. SuperToxin

This is ridiculous. It just shouldnt be allowed.

  14. TheSkyking2020

Oof. I avoid recent. I also avoid Ubisoft. So no real loss.

  15. I am not even surprised about this lol.

Judging by how hard Tencent wanted to get their hands on Ubisoft before, this comes as no surprise to me personally.

Monopoly is never good. Interesting to see how it develops.

  16. polmeeee

Get fucked Ubisoft..I don’t care who will buyout this dumpster fire nor what happens to this racist piece of trash of a company.

  17. cypher50

If this happens then Ubisoft Connect is dead and all functions will be integrated into Epic Game Store.

  18. DriftMantis

This would be worse case scenario as this shit tier publisher has never released a AAA game as far as I can tell and only has a collection of mostly mobile games that were already developed that tencent acquired.

If they acquire ubisoft, we all lose ghost recon, farcry, assassins creed, prince of persia etc as we know it.

They always do this when the stock slumps. They wont sell.
