That’s a… heated and VERY opinionated question there, mate.

Engagement Optimized MatchMaking. Casual CoD is dead for players with thumbs.

Both Activision and the CoD community are to blame for the huge drop in quality in modern CoD games.

Activision are the ones that introduced in MW19 all the garbage that still plagues CoD to this day, and the community to this day still lacks the necessary brain cells to stop supporting the company and their abysmal games after everything Activision has done.

  5. I would say us… My girlfriend has a younger brother who can play Call of Duty for hours and hours with his friends enjoyably. I see a lot of our old selves in him and I think we all have gotten old and aren’t adapting to the newer games. I also think all the negativity on social media doesn’t help either

When they realized they could release slop and still get a profit

Sbmm. Literally the only issue with the franchise at this point.

I’m not even sure if it is ruined, in a general sense. I think COD has just been in the game so long that the new generation of COD players have a vastly different outlook on what they want from COD than the OG COD players.

What I feel like ruins my personal experience, though, is the artificial nature of the new COD games. Engage-optimized matchmaking makes the lobbies feel so unnatural, logging in just to get greeted with “Have you bought the battlepass” ads, $30 bundles in a $70 game, XP tokens that don’t even pause in the menu, being served old features as new ones, so many skins that I can barely tell who is on my team…it doesn’t feel like I’m playing a game half the time. It feels like I’m being rinsed of every sense I have so Activison gets as much time, attention, and money from me as possible.

EOMM, skins, and the newer/younger audience. From 2018/2019 onwards, it became a different game.

    The players.

They’re the ones complaining about wacky cosmetics when they are the ones buying everything. If they stop buying it, they’ll stop making it.

They’re also complaining about SBMM because they’re bad at the game. They just want all of the glory without the effort. Shooting bodies is the only way they can cover how bad they are. Also, EOMM does not exist and people are desperate to believe it does.

The players also lack any kind of responsibility. It can’t be them who lost. It has to be somebody cheating. Aim assist is totally the problem as well, according to them.

Ultimately, the players have gotten extremely toxic and remain consistent at it. It’s no wonder why not many people use voice chat anymore and would rather go to Discord calls (like myself).

The focus shifting towards multiplayer instead of the campaign and zombies, now the campaigns are decent at best and zombies is terrible. What made old COD good was the zombies, campaign and multiplayer all evenly made with great care and attention, now all the devs just care about multiplayer and the new cod games suck.

The bacon skin in Black Ops 2 was our downfall
