Aren’t quantum computers designed to solve certain kinds of problems?

I don’t think they were ever supposed to replace ordinary PCs, maybe support them or maybe in the future we will have Quantum chips like we have AI accelerator chips now.

My oven will bake a literal potato but my PC barely warms it up even though it has the same wattage. Your thoughts? Should I install a second AMD GPU or maybe just take the coolers out to get better results?

    This just in.

    Screwdrivers make terrible egg beaters.

    More at 11.

I’ve seen a demo yesterday… some friend of one of our professors is researching in this field, was a portable unit, so calculating sth it must have been sth really complex to be faster, than a x86 cpu… we got it explained very well, but it’s complex af and after a long day studying it’s too much to remember…

For real tho. Quantum computers are so specialized they can’t really run anything else than whatever they are designed for.

  6. RentonZero

Quantum computers are designed for a specific purpose. It’s not an all round powerhouse capable of anything and everything

Apparently a quantum computer cannot do what it was not designed to do

    Thanks Pc Gamer

  8. They tried but the graphics always came out uncertain

  9. some commenters being dumb and entirely missing the part where both are called “computers”

  10. This is like saying cars are bad planes because they can’t fly. No shit.

Well yeah a quantum computer doesn’t work the same way.

The best way to run it might be a stripped down AI model that produces similar imagery, then the quantum computer would have to run thousands of iterations that would build up a probability field representing all possible paths that can be taken in the game.

    Cliiiickbaiiiiiiittt 🙃🙃🙃

  13. uhm there is no working quantum computers, yet. also they will never appear in personal computers lol.

My microwave cleans my clothes a lot less well than my washing machine does.

  15. EiffelPower76

It’s not a question of powerful

Quantum computer are not made for gaming, they will never be good at it

  16. wreckedftfoxy_yt

quantum pcs are not the same as regular pcs

I love the Quandoom guy’s GitHub page. Great sense of humor –

“Despite decades of active research, there is yet to be developed a single practical use for quantum computers. This changes today, with the release of Quandoom, a port of the first level of DOOM designed for a quantum computer, given as a single QASM file, using a mere 70,000 qubits and 80 million gates. Although such a quantum computer doesn’t exist right now, Quandoom is efficiently simulatable on a classical computer, capable of running at 10-20 fps on my laptop…”

  18. What quantum computers? What we have now is far from what’s some people hoped it would be.

cant wait for laptops to have a QPU and a quantum key

  21. CrypticTechnologist

It’s simple. Quantum Computing won’t reach the next level until someone builds a quantum computer specifically to run doom. This is a joke headline, but it will probably happen sometime.

  22. HankThrill69420

the same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg

  23. Quantum computers have been overhyped for a decade. In reality they only offer moderate performance gains on very specific kinds of problems. It’s still going to take decades for the technology to be useful and it will probably never trickle down to consumers.
