I mean that is not a lie. Appears and sex appeal sells and very well.
Some might say “oh but I can make this guy looks worse” yeah but because you have the chance to do it or is a meme about it.
And it doesn’t mean it has to be a realistic person or a over sexualized woman, it just “needs to look good”. I can’t imagine people remember Halo from seeing Master Chief without his iconic green suit or Kratos without his physique and brutality, heck, even Steve from Minecraft works.
Not a fair comparasion but I looked at the Concord characters and said “no way anyone would have cosplay this characters even with the game would have been successful”.

I’ve been using a mod for SOTTR that gives the desexualisation of Lara Croft in the latest trilogy a good kick in the nuts. It elevates the game massively and returns Lara to the way Toby Gard originally designed her in the 90’s.
Modern game characters definitely appear to have been designed to appeal to both sexes, and cause very little offence in the process.
