I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily my favorite but the one from Death’s Door is really impressive. The text has such presence due to its size and it’s accompanied by a low pitched sound effect that adds to the punch. Another one I like is the death screen from Steel Soul mode in Hollow Knight because of the text >!In attempting the feat, one proves their courage!<

Project Zomboid is cool. It’s reversed though, so not sure if it quite counts

GTA IV’s was pretty cool. If you died in a cool or funny way you’d get to see it play out in slow motion all the way before the fade to black. I was really upset when I first played GTA V and the death screen only lasted a few seconds before fading away.

I still remember Rikimaru’s little poem from one of the Tenchu games. It showed like a dead forest with leaves falling and this little music, and then this text:
“Blackness is all I see and all I touch No feeling of pain, just sorrow My hand loses grip of the sword I held And I turn to become a true shadow.”
I don’t know if it’s cool, but I thought, damn. Way to make me feel bad.

The Arkham games deserve some love for having the villain you were facing off against taunting you when you die.
Also, the Halo games when you die and the A.I. breaks and just starts unloading into your corpse is always funny.

Arkham games with the villains taunting you.
Kingdom Hearts with the minor variations between what you’re defeated by (Sora’s heart is floating out if killed by a Heartless, entities with rip out said metaphysical aspect)

It’s all about the Mass Effect death jingle. Especially when the edge of the Mako tire touches some lava.

Not technically a death screen so honorable mention goes to Dead Space for the amazing amount of unique deaths the game has to offer.

Dying in older call of duty campaigns was neat. The blurry screen with a “famous quote” and ringing ears until the *whoomp* black screen, before respawning at a checkpoint
