For me it's little nightmares, I picked it up for 10 bucks on sale on steam thinking nothing of it. I played it and I was completely blown away, the art, the soundtrack, gameplay, I consider it a masterpiece. Little nightmares turned out to be one of my favourite series. It does a great job at really throwing you into the world.
Here's some gameplay footage of the third one that's coming out soon.

Subnautica.
I don’t like survival games at all. But somehow I really enjoyed that one.
The Ori games. They have a good reputation but I didn’t know they are both some of the greatest platformers of all time. Will of the Wisps is probably in top 5.
Bioshock Infinite. I had no idea about the epicness of the other games, never saw a video of the precious games or such.
But man … This game … I just got a slap in my face in the first hour.
Disco Elysium. Was surprised I liked the format more than I thought.
Stardew Valley. I didn’t think I’d enjoy a pixelated farm simulation game more than Harvest Moon
Alan Wake II, it’s just fantastically great. Comedy, horror and even musical? This is the Art.
Shadow Warrior 1
Lies of P, it’s fucking edgleord Pinocchio why did you go so hard?! I mean, I’m here for it but yeah my expectations were low when I played it on Game Pass but I needed a Bloodborne fix lol. Pleasantly surprised.
The Mudrunner/Snowrunner games
On paper it sounds so lame – drive a truck about through difficult terrain delivering cargo.
But my god… I’ve played them for hundreds of hours
Wolfenstein franchise
7 days to die. The core loop of exploration, crafting, base defense with a sense of urgency and dread… Fantastic game.
Jurassic World: Evolution. I’m not a big fan of Tycoon games as some of them have too much you have to manage, but JWE has a good balance on everything and it’s not too complicated. Also, the dinosaurs are cool.
“Another Crab’s Treasure”
I expected Dark Souls for kids.
I got the Mario of Dark Souls.
Most recently, Astro Bot.
In general, nothing has ever knocked my socks off like Outer Wilds
Evil West was a really good game. Played it multiple times
Minecraft Tricky Trials Update
Haven has an incredibly well told story and the combat is far better than I would’ve thought it would be.
Tormented Souls. But it’s not a game most part of people would like (just as an advice). Resident Evil graphics and gameplay style.
I’m currently playing Pokémon Prism and it really impressed me by its and playability.
It has a great playing system and aesthetics, besides the fact that occasionally a new role has been given for Pokémon other than just being “fighting pets”. Easily the one I would recommend for someone who wants to have a one and done Pokémon experience.
Saw a post saying Alan Wake 2, but I was expecting great things and wasn’t disappointed.
Alan Wake 1 did it for me by setting up the whole Remedy universe, but I really loved the game as a whole. The OST is still probably my favorite of all the games I’ve played.
Little Nightmares is excellent as well. I’m looking forward to the 3rd installment, but check out Reanimal, that game is made by the developers who originally made Little Nightmares.
Bioshock. I went in blind in 2012. Amazing experience
[Donut Dodo](https://youtu.be/ZJABjsxZPkk). It’s a little throwback to the one screen arcade games of the early 1980s. Absolutely banging soundtrack, and graphics that are nostalgic but obviously juiced up from what was really possible back in the day.
The game has some real depth in its gameplay as well. Just playing to win and playing to get a decent score are completely different experiences.
The Last of Us (dislike zombies), Breath of the Wild (never saw any gameplay and don’t like Zelda games, friend convinced me to get it in 2022 and it blew my mind), and Splatoon 3 (not my kind of game in any way except I’m addicted to salmon runs).
Also I agree with Little Nightmares! I watched someone play the whole thing before I played it because horror games can really stress me out, but I had a lot of fun playing it
A short hike. Super simple game but it was exactly what I needed when I played.
I think the game that’s impacted me the most in the last few years and will always stick with me was Psychonauts 2. That game SLAPPED and made its way to the top of my 3D platformer list very quickly. I still don’t think it beats some of the GOATS like crash 1-4 for me, but it was a wonderful time from start to finish.
Honorable mention in the same category is A Hat in Time. If you liked Mario 64 and haven’t played it, it’s basically Mario 64 with a chunk of upgrades
Control. I love the gameplay and the Lore, only got it when it was on sale but got completely sucked in
It Takes Two. Thought it was just gonna be some mid game for my wife and I to water a few hours on. It was actually quite profound and the gameplay was excellent.
To the Moon
and
Pizza Tower
Firewatch.
Cyberpunk 2077
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
Little Nightmares is a work of art for me, as well. Little Nightmares 2 is also good, so I’m kind of hyped for the 3rd.
Alan wake
Dead space
Assassin’s creed mirage
Fossil fighters. Got it as a kid for my birthday. Thought it was a Pokémon rip off but it ended up as a timeless classic. Wish the series never died, lots of fun.
I know is like one of the biggest games for Sony but I honestly didn’t except to love The Last of Us 2 as much as I did. It’s easily one of my favorite games ever
Cyberpunk 2077 I was just playing that game thinking it’s just a mid game and then dammn that story I got so fucking hooked and legit made me think about ending for 4-5 days
Tunic
A Plague Tale: Innocence, great game on PS plus
Helldivers II
Let me preface by saying I *HATE* live service games.
Tried Fortnite: hated it
Tried COD: awful
Tried Tarkov: nearly jumped off a bridge
Tried PUBG: Meh
But Helldivers is so cinematic and intense and truly delivers the “oh shit I’m a hero rn” moments
It’s also hilarious
Here for Kingdom Come Deliverance.
I’m not a fan of realistic historical stuff. I much prefer fantasy.
This RPG really has no business being as good of a simulator as it is.
Bioshock 1 et Bioshock 2
Inside
Signalis. Heard it was good, it was spectacular.
Inside really flipped my mind.
The ending shocked me like no other.
The Long Dark
I love playing this game, especially during summer and winter.
