There’s a reason we aren’t as harsh on the Steam Deck. Actually, a couple.

So anyways. Then I booted up Spider-Man 2.

Edit: you complain more about PlayStation than you talk about PCs in a PC sub.

Aight have fun with that see you in 2 years when gta 6 comes out for pc

It’s totally apples and oranges. In the particular new niche that is handheld PC gaming consoles, steam deck is one of the cheapest and best performing of the ones that render locally. It’s the best value for money in its own niche. Home gaming consoles don’t have much competition: at the minute you only really have the PS5 and Xbox Series X as the latest models, with the switch really playing in a totally different field.

Is the problem with PS5 Pro the price or the value for money? I think it’s the latter which makes it hard to directly compare within its own niche due to lack of competition.

Also: Steam Deck is ‘backward compatible’ with the equivalent of like . . . what 3-4 console gens worth of games? That are all discounted?

    Most of them fairly cheap.

You can’t play games from the PS2 or PS3 on PS5. – Well unless you rebuy or subscribe to a service.

IDK why this is even a debate.

One is a portable device that has a lot of extra hardware in it to make it impressive- it’s also a computer with the freedom to install or do what you want on it. Vs the PS5 which plays games . . .And that’s it.

not saying the ps5 pro is good but this comparisons is biased in the steam decks favor. everything listed on the steam decks side are positives and everything on the ps5 pro is negative

  6. GlowDonk9054

I can install Windows on the Deck, (I’m not big on Linux)

  7. Eziolambo

Nice try OP. But I will still buy ps5 pro.

  8. Imperial_Bouncer

Also, repair friendly. That’s a big thing. They partnered with iFixit to sell spare parts.

  9. Emotional-Wedding-87

I would like to install windows on the ps5.

  10. Mother-Translator318

Also steam deck: struggles to run the latest demanding games at 30fps. The correct answer is to get a ROG Ally or wait for the Switch 2, assuming its any good. Or just build a pc

  11. PhantomPain0_0

Paying for online can rightly fuck off, what the fuck am I paying my isp for

  12. stddealer

One of them is much more powerful than the other, especially when it comes to graphics processing though.

  13. Totoronyx

I had a steam deck, sold it. I had a PS5, sold it. I guess the difference is I would never buy the steam deck again. Ps5 I would someday.. but unlikely for $700. But not out of the question.

  14. Convict3d3

Steam deck, at least I don’t have to pay a subscription to play online 😑

  15. sentiment-acide

One of them can only play sprite based games. Come on. 😂

  16. Affectionate_Rub_589

ill take the ps5. steam deck is a potato pc and can only play games at 240p

  17. Blenderhead36

The $500 Steam Deck also doesn’t have features that the $700 version lacks.

  18. cmackchase

If I had to choose between these two, would choose the ps5 because I can’t fuck with the button layout of the Steam Deck.

  19. 67657375636361

I choose seven hundred in my pocket. My ps5 paid half of that can play the shit I want to play just fine, the same as my main work pc should I ever feel the need to play on that.

Enjoy wasting your hard worked money on pointless stuff

  20. SilasDG

Also compact enough to be portable, runs quieter, and has a lithium battery, and front facing speakers.

  21. SignalGladYoung

lets be fair here. play games at 4k60 or 720p30. 200w console v 30w handheld.

  22. TherealHominator

Daddy GabeN offers Linux and lets you emulate your own old PS3 games on the beautiful OLED display while on the go, the PlayStation forces you to pay a monthly fee to play online games of the severly limited catalog without any PS3, PS2 etc games. It’s not even in the same realm.

  23. Ostehoveluser

I’ve been using steam 10+ years but I would still pick the ps5 over the steam deck every time. I just don’t see the appeal to be honest.

  24. Cash091

Okay, but we know the Steam Deck OLED is $550, right?? Is the $700 if you buy an additional 2TB SSD?

  25. RunalldayHI

For $200 more you can have a laptop that runs cooler with more battery life, bigger screen with more res and refresh rate, keyboard, significantly faster cpu and gpu, more ram etc etc.

  26. THIS_GUY_LIFTS

Just how vigorously can PCMR jerk themselves off anymore? I can hear the echo…

  27. This is getting tedious. What’s the next new thing yall can move onto posting about constantly? Isn’t this a PC sub? Why so obsessed with a console?

  28. KnockuBlockuTowa

    *subscription for online multiplayer

  29. andherBilla

Soon we will be able to play Bloodborne on the Deck at 60fps……..

  30. Dammit. I didn’t join this sub to listen to people whine about consoles.

  31. Clean_Perception_235

I didn’t come here for you guys to whine about consoles on a pc sub

  32. Wild-Cow8724

I kinda just want a steam deck to play Half-life, Deus ex and other retro games on lol

  33. Little-Equinox

The Steam Deck starts at 600.- overhere in Europe

  34. It’s like comparing buying an unlocked phone and the cheaper one locked to a carrier.

Sure, you would get it cheaper by buying a locked one, just like consoles, but you’re paying that through other means, like paying for such a basic features like online gaming, a more expensive game, you can’t play your old game on the newer consoles.
