Considering the fact I love racing games and have never heard of this one, I will assume it’s had very little marketing.

Racing games have certainly declined from their peak. On the other hand the Forza Horizon series and Gran Turismo always seem to sell fine, and they keep making Need for Speed games so they must be doing well enough. There are a number of other ongoing AA series that keep coming out like Ride and a couple rally series that have an audience.
I hear that people like that Mario Kart.
This game is from a series that has been dormant for a long time and earned a 56 on Metacritic. I’m not sure we can draw much from this.
If the next Forza Horizon flops then we can talk about the genre being in trouble.
