‘Big investment in resources’ to what; change a ‘3’ into a ‘4’ and reshuffle the controls?!

  2. Antoen_0

If you buy stuff from EA you should be made fun of.

  3. Beginningenz

NHL and MLB are the only ones I want to play and neither on PC

  4. TerrorSyxke

yea, because everyone emulates 2005 on pcsx2

  5. Miracl3Work3r

Checks out, the majority of people who play sports titles do not own gaming PCs.

  6. poopisme

Nonsense! There are dozens of us DOZENS!

  7. DangerWildMan26

Madden doesn’t sell very well on PC so I don’t think they are lying.

  8. lxdiamond

I guess I saw NHL in the Xbox game pass and even playable via cloud on PC. I know it’s not actually on PC but still.

  9. Capsfan6

Weird, I haven’t bought a NHL game in the last 6-7 years because they don’t come out on PC

  10. joestaff

Based on anecdotal evidence of my gaming circles, they’re not wrong.

Having said that, it’s a *little* surprising they don’t have enough experience to at least lay some ground work for portability between platforms. I’ve seen (granted, much *much* smaller) projects have a means to port the same code between all platforms with more or less a single button. I would expect a AAA game studio to have a person dedicated to automated CI/CD.

Keep in mind that EA isn’t just concerned with making the money back. EA is concerned with the opportunity cost of having spent on a product that will only make $x when they could have spent it on a product that would make $1000x. And outside of a few specific sectors, the PC community doesn’t spend on microtransactions like the console community.

  12. TheTiredPangolin

Are we saying we don’t believe EA here or something? Because regardless of EA being scummy this sounds entirely accurate to me?

  13. SamShakusky71

    They didn’t claim “no audience”.

They claimed the audience wasn’t sufficient to offset the costs to port.

What? Do you honestly believe they’re wrong? Either you grossly overestimate the actual audience or underestimate the resources required to port the game.

  14. Geeseareawesome

I would buy an nhl game for gm mode, but HLM exists so I don’t need to.

  15. Blootzz

Yeah that makes sense. Even Madden struggles to maintain a pc player base.

Honestly I’d bet a hockey game that isn’t a simulation would do well. People that don’t follow NHL don’t care about signature cellys and dangles. Instead of spending money to get the NHL licensing, spend money on interesting mechanics, environments, fighting, story mode. EA probably wouldn’t make competing titles though

  16. ned_poreyra

Might be onto something, I don’t even know what is NHL.

  17. Just because you want something doesn’t mean everyone else does. Take the L

  18. Rose-Red-Witch

Yeah, because their Marketing Research is just *so* spot on all the time, right?

  19. imsorryken

You can be sure they would have already made it if they thought it was profitavle

  20. Vic_Hedges

I just want an NHL GM Style Franchise Manager that is more casual friendly than FHM.

Let me play a game where I make big trades, draft players and change lines, line an automated Fantasy Hockey League.

  21. SeriousDrive1229

I don’t see why they’d lie about this. Like if they could make money on it, they would

  22. WrastleGuy

They aren’t wrong, unless they do gacha elements then the return won’t be there.  PC sports games is a dead market.

  23. Kythorian

Sounds likely to me. I don’t play sports video games, but literally everyone I know who does play them does so exclusively on console. I guess that’s just an anecdote, but their claim sounds pretty plausible at a minimum.

  24. PolskiDupek31

Big talk coming from the company who copy and pastes the same fifa every year and makes a shit load of cash.

  25. ShiroOneesama

Hell if Ea release it on PC i will pirate it just for sake of it and never touch it again.

  26. as a pc player i abhor most sports games so that guy seems right to me

  27. Bitter-Whole-7290

Do any sports games sell well at all on PC?

  28. Mattock486

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can play a hockey/NHL game on PC? I see comments here about XBox game pass.

I mean if they don’t want to port it to PC, at least make it available on their Playstation Plus streaming platform?

  29. ComeonmanPLS1

Nothing like a bit of braindead rage karma baiting on a Tuesday, huh lads?

  30. StarCadetJones

Critical thinking is a skill that needs more attention in schools…

They said the audience isn’t sufficient to provide an adequate ROI, not that there isn’t an audience at all.

  31. The_Answer_Man

Tape To Tape on Steam is my PC hockey fix and it’s an awesome game. Not quite the same idea as a typical NHL game but it’s wicked. I wonder the sales and player numbers on that game. NHL would likely be higher and it seems that Tape To Tape has been pretty successful for being an indie game

  32. StretchTucker

i would play sports games on pc. i love super mega baseball series, ive been interested in checking out tape to tape, my friends and i played gridiron for a time. they just need to be good which ea prolly won’t do

  33. OCEL0T5

This game already sucks why do you want cheaters too?

  34. ChefHannibal

I would play if I knew it was cross-platform

  35. NebraskaGeek

EA lies, constantly. I don’t believe them, or care what they have to say. They just aren’t willing make less profit for the sake of making good games. Public companies suck at making games.

  36. Humans_Suck-

Maybe they should try adding hockey to their hockey game. I tried the last one, and I don’t know what sport that was, but it wasn’t hockey.

  37. IAmHaskINs

I’m a PC guy since 03 and i never knew they were still making NHL games. I have only seen NFL and FIFA for the last 10 years easy. I have only seen one NHL game in my life and that was a neighborhood kid had it for the SNES back in the 90’s. Yea i think this guy knows what he is talking about lol.

  38. IgnorantGenius

They are way out of touch. Just make the console version available to stream on EA Play for PC. Stupid as fuck. What do you need? An xbox account, an EA account, a pc with internet, a controller, an Xcloud subscription with EA Play. Done. Now do it for NBA…oh wait.

  39. Thaddeus0607

They’re not wrong, but it’s mostly because EA NHL is garbage year after year. THE SHOW on the other hand, is how a sports game should be done.

  40. Xtrophy

Diverting from what work on the game? They just remove features every year, nothing new is ever added.

  41. uncreative14yearold

Checks out, most people who play sports games are very casual gamers, not the kind of people who play on pc.

  42. AileStrike

As a pc player I am interested I’m NHL games on pc.

It’s just that I’m still playing the NHL games from the 90s. I’m interested in NHL games, just not the recent ones.
