If nothing else, MAJORS should at least have open qualifiers imo.

Drills have only made to the RMR so far and they have only made it that far because the middle eastern qualify is basically a sham. Drillas has three people who grew up in Europe.

I get it, but I wildly disagree.
It’s fun, but people only give a shit because it’s Ohne and they’re underdogs. They could’ve been doing this all year, but truthfully these guys have no long term plans of playing together, and the only reason they’re getting anywhere is because they’re trying to game the qualification system. Even in the weakest region in CS, they are a total outside shot to even qualify. The scene absolutely benefits from people like Ohne getting involved and from underdog stories, but those can both still happen under the new rules, you just have to actually show what you’re made of at the other events first.
It’d be like getting mad at UEFA for not letting you and your buddies compete for a spot in the Champions League despite never working your way through the lower tiers of competition. It’s entitlement. If you want to play at the most prestigious CS event, you have to prove yourself during the rest of the year. That’s my take on this, but feel free to disagree. After all, I’m just some fucking guy.

If the middle east qualifier started with a closed qualifier instead of an open one then Drillas would just have to play like one CCT and they would have enough ranking points to get invited, it’s a tiny region. Drillas are a pretty shit argument for open quals.

Open qualifiers are needed but not for middle east+africa region. Every fucking time it’s just clown “teams” like drillas, created partly from european players specially for abusing this qualifier, and few teams from south africa, who are useless cause either playing with 150 ping, not playing at all cause they couldn’t arrive at normal location or just being not good enough even for such shitty subreagion (bravado).
