Oh, absolutely! Sovereign’s entrance in Mass Effect is iconic. That deep, ominous voice sends shivers down my spine every time. It’s like a space-age villain straight out of a sci-fi blockbuster.

  2. My favorite villain. This line really is scary which makes one of the best writing in the games

The reveal of the Reapers was so epic. At first you think Saren is the “big bad” so to speak, focusing on taking down this rogue agent. Once Sovereign shows up, everything changes. I came into Mass Effect after playing Knights of the Old Republic, and despite my high expectations it still blew my mind. I hope the next game is a return to form for them.

I loved it indeed! It set expectations that 2 and 3 failed to meet for me, but I didn’t know that yet at the time.

This is one of the greatest reveals in science fiction history. The idea that sovereign was more than just a ship blew my mind.

  6. It is beyond awesome!
He was also a completely new type of villain for me at the time, it was legendary!

“There is a realm of existence so far beyond your own, you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. I, am Sovereign.

Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.

Reaper? A label creatured by the protheans to give voice to their destruction. In the end what they chose to call us is irrelevant. We simply… are.

Organic life is nothing but a genetic mutation, an accident. Your lives are measured in years and decades, you wither and die.

We are eternal, the pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us you are nothing, your extinction is inevitable. We are the end of everything.

Confidence born of ignorence, the cycle cannot be broken.

The pattern has repeated itself more time than you can fathom. Organic civilizations rise, evolve, advance and at the apex of their glory they are extinguished.

We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.

We have no beginning, we have no end. We are infinite. Millions of years after your civilization has been eradicated and forgotten. We will endure.

My kind transcends your very understanding. We are each a nation, independent, free of all weakness. You cannot even grasp the nature of our existence.

We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the skies of every world. You cannot escape your doom.

Your words are as empty as your future. I am the vanguard of your destruction. This exchange is over.”

Ever since this scene, I’ve always thought Peter Jessop, doing basically this voice, would be perfect for Unicron in a *Transformers* series or film.

I think it’s not without reason the reapers look like giant squids, which hold quite a significance is cosmic horror and anything Lovecraftian.
