I think advertising primarily, I’ve heard more about this game in relation to the flopped launch than any hype before it.
From what I’ve read, it’s an okay game but you need to generate some serious buzz to compete in what’s seen as a F2P genre.

When X number of players are actively playing and Y is the previous most active user count, if X> Y then X is persisted as the new most active user count. That shows the all-time high for most players online at the same time.
