To loosely summarize (which I assume this change is likely for when we return to a full open circuit in 2025 as stated in the title), Valve made a rule change last night which in a nutshell says that TOs can now only invite teams 8 weeks prior to an event. According to messiso, which if Im understanding correctly, means that qualifiers, visas, flights, and anything else have to be done exactly within those 8 weeks.

A major issue pointed out is that this can affect certain parts of the world due to stricter visa requirements from host country or from a player’s country of origin since 8 weeks may not be enough time.

Whenever this’ll be changed later on due to feedback being received before 2025 or whatever, no one knows for now. From my perspective, it could hypothetically be changed later due to the issues mentioned that’ll be pointed out but what do I know.

This is something that should be kept track of however as this will highly likely affect teams that are Russian or with Russians such as Spirit, VP, Cloud9, Heroic, and G2, and hosting events outside of certain countries such as America, Australia, China, and probably even countries within Europe like we saw with Germany, the UK, and Denmark due to visa processes. Although for the latter, this mainly affects Russians but may affect others with weaker passports or if they screw something up, wherever they’re from.

  2. Valve how about u fix your shitty optimized game instead

  3. …but like, why? Wouldn’t this just make acquiring visas harder? Or did they make this rule for a different purpose than assisting players with their visa?
