Why does my documents folder icon keep shrinking to this tiny version? I have to do a disk cleanup every time I restart my computer to get it back to the normal icon.

  1. right click on empty desktop and click refresh, does that fix it?

You have to do a disk clean-up? That’s a pretty nuclear step for an icon being different.

Relating to display scalling I’m aware. Tell me. What screen resolution are you using? Do you have more than one monitor?

Have you tried unpinning all desktop icons and then restoring them to default? Go to Settings > Personalization > Themes > Desktop icon settings. Uncheck all icons then hit Apply. Once done, click on Restore Default and then select back the icons.

If that didn’t work, try to clear the thumbnail cache

and rebuild the icon cache using option two in the methods below
