Battlestations

Jeez I don’t think my scrap built desk and hutch are hardcore enough for the regular Battlestations subreddit. It’s clean, but it’s not loaded with enough lights and superfluous stuff to be minimalist enough for that subreddit.

When I moved in here there were two desks that were wobbly and crummy, both with right hand side drawers. So I cut them up into one desk with a hutch, specifically sized to hold all my stuff. It’s also meticulously cable managed and on wheels. It being on wheels really helps with cable management.

The big surface area and lights on top are for playing Magic: The Gathering online with real cards because I’m too sigma for Arena. Just kidding. I still play MTGO and I’m not paying to play Magic *three ways*.

The speakers are old Radioshack Linaeum’s, I love them. They’re what people call very “shouty”, and I like that. I intentionally have a minimal amount of space above the tweeters to make them *shoutier*, get the high frequency bounce back. I like crispy cymbals in my music listening experience.

Only thing that wasn’t bought new in the picture is the main display, haha. The speakers, amp, CD player, side monitors, keyboard (though I painted and customized it), game controllers, Sinden light gun holstered to my left, all of it second hand, most of it from thrift stores!

I added [five force feedback motors to my chair for sim racing](https://streamable.com/98yvan), and just added rollerblade wheels, and a gas lift with a longer lift.

It’s a weird setup, but it’s really nice. I used to have like, white desks, or black desks. Or wood grain wrap desks. It was so depressing, I started rebelling with a floral phone case. Then a floral desk mat, and wrist rest. I even [painted and added floral waterslide decals to my keyboard](https://imgur.com/gallery/i-made-keyboard-all-cottage-core-ovF0KY8)! Then I just went ape shit on the floral theme when I made my desk, haha. It’s much more pleasant to be around than the monotone colors and bad vinyl woodgrain appliques.

I really like it. Going to get some plants for the top of the hutch, want some hanging vine things, get some greenery along the sides. Any suggestions for mostly shade, low light plants to fit the bills?
