It really happened…

Saw a 4090 build listing for low price, so I proceed to have a conversation with caution. By cheap I mean the price of whole build is cheaper than cpu+gpu MSRP pre-tax.

In the end I decided to go and have a look since I don’t wanna miss out on potentially a good deal. Turns out he had 2 pcs and this one was throttling HARD, basically full speed fans on start up, and everything was a bit laggy. He had some theory that the new i9s are not practical at all and he had to turn down cpu voltage to be barely usable… I never used an i9 before but I loosely follow some hardware YouTubers and I did hear something here and there, so I thought to myself it must be the cpu cooler (never heard of the brand before) or poorly applied thermal paste.

I ran some benchmarks, other than the super underwhelming cpu, everything looks fine and most importantly, all the hardwares are legit. So I took it back, grabbed some thermal paste and remover, opened it up, and saw what’s in the picture… I worried so bad that there must be a catch as I was driving home, such a relief lol.

tl;dr: took a gamble on a cheap 4090 build that was thermal throttling, turns out the plastic of the cpu cooler was not removed… lol

Wow, he really sold his whole system for cheap because he didn’t install the AIO correctly.

Imagine he’s on this sub and finds this post. Bro will be punching air.

Call it cruel, but I kinda hope whoever sold it is a part of this sub.

how the fuck are you building something that expensive and paying that little attention 😭

I genuinely don’t understand how this mistake even happens but congrats on the cheap build lol

I always stick that clear plastic to the clear case the cpu comes in, if there’s no cpu in the clear case, it better have a cooler clear plastic on it.

People think I’m crazy and I get down votes when I suggest this as a fairly common problem. Good on you for catching it.
