Counter-Strike 2

RIP CS2 Surfers

Prior to CS2, Surfing was one of if not the largest community game mode in the series. It was fun, competitive, and completely unique to the game’s identity for 20 years.

But the release of a new game almost killed it and many are worried it might never recover.

  1. The server browser is the steam internal serverbrowser with a inbound connection in cs2 its not even in the game itself thats why it opens in a new window

  2. 5:13 "…but how many times have we talked about Valve adding these unnecessary hurdles to their game…"
I like how with this little part you lead to Valve DELIBERATELY making their games WORSE on a daily basis lol

Let's be real, the fact that Hammer Editor was released before the release and people can already make some crazy stuff with it shows (at least for me) that they are not going to leave community-made gamemodes and servers on their own. There are just many other problems too. It takes time.

  3. It would be awesome if valve would publish an offical surf gamemode with leaderboard and a mappool

  4. There’s also an important reason for the edge bug that wasn’t explained; if you ever noticed the tick rate on surf servers was often lower back in csgo, it was because lowering your tick rate actually made it so the chances of the edge bug happening were lower because your movement was tracked at a lower tick rate, which meant the chances of you having hit an edge bug on that tick is lowered significantly.

However, since cs2 is locked at 64 ticks, there’s a higher chance of the edge bug happening just because you have that many more ticks where you would land on an edge bug.

This also retrospectively explains why if you had 128 or 64 tick offline games (say you just launched a surf map from the workshop) it would feel awful because you would often run into edge bugs.

That’s all and thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

  5. only two things I never learned in my 20+ years of CS. How to Surfer and how to B hop. I can Surfer for a bit until it goes around a bend then I fall off or shoot off the top. I can maybe land 2 clean b hops.

  6. The community will come back even bigger than ever once they drop that one thing where you can code your own stuff in CS. CS will be a whole new game and they'll never have to come out with a new CS game just update this one. Just think maybe this time next year you'll be playing GTA RP in CS with friends with working Ai, NPC, Cars, whatever your little heart can code up. Or you don't want GTA maybe you want a dirt bike game you could make that in CS as well. Once that update drops CS is going to be crazy. I think that's one of the reason they're not to worried about getting all the community stuff back in CS because they have to worry about other stats and maps get pro play ready get their AC ready. But that update will come. CS is going to turn into Roblox just make whatever you want and play with friends or people from all over.

  7. The audio cut at 5:06 seems very unintentional. Unsure if that's the kind of thing @theScore esports will care to fix, but one can dream.

  8. lol i havent played for a long time. but i spent thousands of hours of my childhood playing cs 1.6. i remember how joining some some servers infects your client and makes you automatically advertise for that site in the chat. or even makes it so that what ever button u click on the menu connects you to that server. lots of crazy shit xD

  9. i think you need to wait a lot before a true release. I'm a competitive player so that why i don't say "we" but they are working we know it. BUT they are more concerne about their primary new mod which is premier. Remember they add another gamemod mounths ago. Now they're finally doing something against cheaters. They are working, we just need to be patient

  10. ..never was real part of CS…better to remove this kind of loosing time 💤 when you can do some else on real CS servers 🥂

  11. I wouldve loved for you guys to show what momentummod is doing for the movement community rn. They are literally creating a whole new game with a heavy focus on all source based movement games

  12. This is actually really interesting, cause yesterday I was looking at trying to surf (haven't really played cs2 since it came out), and I tried to use the community browser and it wont even load anything. Thought it was just broken, sucks this is like a big issue.

  13. They need to add +stage back and change the +left /+right speeds back to what they were in CS go

  14. I clicked on the globe button in cs2 the one for community servers, zero cs2 servers, but I saw a server from DayZ, clicked on it, and I was already in DayZ on the server, having good time talking and stabbing random innocent people for duct tape, truly a good CS experience

  15. It’s more than just surf. The OG movement mode KZ is just as bad in CS2. The movement community in general just got destroyed by Valve and CS2 and they don’t care as long as people buy cases. In both game modes it just feels so clunky and not as responsive. It’s a shame.

But hey at least we got a graphics upgrade right? Because better graphics surely mean better game.

  16. I have over 12k hours on CS and about half that was surfing on CSGO sucks to see they are slowly killing the game

  17. for me, when I click on the community server tab, it tabs out my game and the window pops up on my desktop and then I have to open cs2 again only to minimize when I click inside the community server tab

  18. those invisible walls are on barrels on A site inferno and broken wall on site B Dust 2. Valvo fix ur FUCKING GAME

  19. Everyone whines about shitty ramps, but this is because all the maps on the servers are direct ports from csgo. Of course they will deel like shit when the maps aren't made for the game.

  20. 4:35 The reason it tabs out is because its opening the official one inside the Steam client and searches for CS2 servers. View > Game Servers

  21. real surfers play source 😀 , also the ramp stuck was possible to fix with lower tickrates 102/80/64 , now in cs2 we dont have this option

  22. I can confirm that CSS was not only the best version of CS to surf on, but the best version of CS period. As someone who played CS since the WON days (before Steam), CSS simply provided me with the most fun both in community servers, and in a competitive environment playing in CEVO and ESEA. I will admit though, playing some of the old aim maps on 1.5/1.6 were a ton of fun, and the Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne server mods made the game absolutely absurd with all the things it added. I remember renting a server on 1.5, cancelling my payment after a month or 2, and then finding that they apparently forgot about it and left it up with full access to modify the server for over a year.

  23. there is really good third party sites like xplay that offer all surf maps with good ping and you just connect via console. I never use the browse tbh and i dont see why i would.
Also things improves alot since beginning, give things time ffs

  24. Where does someone go to START surfing in 2024? CS2 is broken, and they pretty much killed CS:GO surf. Is CS Source still a usable option?
