it’s 2/14/2024 and i’m seeing old reddit posts having issues unlinking/linking platforms from activision. no one ever updates the solution so here’s what i have so far. please add to this thread
i used to play Call of Duty on PC via battle.net i now have a ps5 and have purchased the game for that platform.
i logged into Activision via battle.net user email and password, clicked “profile” and loaded the account linking tab where i see options to link with: playstation, battle.net, xbox, steam, nintendo switch. i had only xbox and battle.net linked to my activision account. and read that i can only have 1 platform linked at a time. for example if you have battle. net for pc you can only have xbox OR playstation also associated or it will not link the account and through you into a refresh loop on the website no matter what device or browser you use.
so i unlinked my xbox gamertag from this activision account so i can link my ps5 account. unlinking the Xbox account was successful very easy to do I logged into my email to verify. i accepted the fact that I could only unlink this xbox account every 12 months(who cares I’m on PS five now and haven’t played call of duty on Xbox in years I’ve been using my PC)
now it’s time to link the PlayStation account… now I’m stuck in a another refresh loop
so i created a support ticket with activision and after sending all identity info and account info ie, screenshots of basic info on all gaming accounts(Sony , Activision , battle.net) as well as gamertag & email associated. i provided my battle.net email and gamertag, sony email and gamertag and activision email and player ID and that’s when they told me my playstation account was already linked with another Random activision account and to sign into THAT account(if I know the credentials ) to unlink sony so that i can log back into my actual account and link psn/activision
how or why did this happen?
turns out when i purchased call of duty on my ps5 it automatically linked my PSN email to activision and created a new account instead of asking me to log in to my actual Activision account with my game progress and DLC, which would’ve saved all of us so much time smh. so i log into activision using my playstation credentials and see on the account linking tab that my PlayStation account is in fact linked to this random new Activision account. The rep said that I have to unlink it from here so that I can link it to my main Activision account with all my DLC and game progress
Turns out that unsuccessful too i get an error code to refresh the page and try again..unlinking an account should be and was very easy for me to do but now on this random activision account its giving me error codes..
further research lead me to try to clear my browser data, cookies and cache to attempt to log into athe new ctivision on an incognito/private browser tab and unlink
that didn’t work
so the problems you may be facing are either:
1. Xbox or PlayStation account is already associated to a different/newly assigned Activision account
SOLUTION: if you know the email and password to the account it’s associated with login and unlink the account. if you do not know the email and password to the Activision account associated with your gaming platform you’ll need to reach out to Activision or your gaming network for them to unlink the unknown account
2. You can only link one gaming console platform at a time so either Xbox or PlayStation, not both.
SOLUTION: if you log into your Activision account and notice multiple gaming platforms are linked, unlink the gaming platform you are no longer using. sign out then refresh the browser tab and sign back in you should only have one console linked now.
3. you’ve already unlinked an account from the same gaming platform this year(can only be done once every 12 months)
SOLUTION: wait 12 months
I screen recorded the problem I’m facing and uploaded it to YouTube per Activision rep request. Here’s a link to one of the videos below you can see me try to login into my account and link my PlayStation account from my Activision account..and another video you can see me log into the new randomly created Activision account and tried to unlink my gamer tag from there so I can finally continue my progress on call of duty on my PS five instead of my PC
no luck, still gets errors waiting on reply from them to see if they’ll just end up doing it on their end their website is broken it’s not us

just got a reply from activision “Upon checking, the PlayStation ID that you have provided is associated with another Activision account. With that said, this is the reason why you can’t link your PlayStation account. What we can only suggest you is to contact us using the affected account so that we can unlink it for you.
I know how important it is to be able to make some changes on your account. Please be advised that Player Support can only assist with cases that are created through the account in question. You may use the credentials of any platform linked to your account to log-in to submit the case.”
so the next step is for me to log into the new randomly created activision account made by my ps5 when launching call of duty for the first time and create a support ticket to remove the PlayStation account from the gaming network. after I create a ticket and they unlink the account I can then log into my actual main Activision account and should be able to successfully link my PlayStation account
crossing fingers I’ll keep you updated we should all vote this Reddit post as it will be the only one with the real solution
