Looks like a bracket of some kind. That shouldn’t have come loose by itself.
It could’ve shorted/damaged components (It looks like metal). Take a pic of the whole board.

The copper cover makes me think it’s a piece of plastic.

If you laptop still working, you are a lucky guy. This random peace of copper can short the motherboard, and fry all the laptop lol.
Remmes-
Could be some kinda of shielding, it definitely looks like it clips onto/over some parts.
See if there’s an opening/disassembly video of your model (or similar) and see if you can spot where it’s from.

Some bracket in my Dell Inspiron 5750 went loose a week ago, the laptop seems fine, who cares. Could be a problem, could not. I personally glued it back down with double-sided duct tape and it hasn’t moved since.

I used to have a gaming laptop, and this looks a lot like the copper fins that lined the exhaust vents at the back. Does your laptop have anything similar? That might be what this is.
Addy-Freeze-BangBang

This is what we call an NSA-implanted listening device, it self-destructs.

Totally didn’t realize what subreddit I was looking at, read that title as “What is this inside my anus?”

As already said, looks like a cooper shield, I’d check if it’s not from the carcass, sometimes they use it as heat spreader to help to dissipate heat using the bottom of the laptop.

Phew, I had to double take the title there.

What kind of material is it? If it’s soft, it looks like the heat pad that would go on the bottom of an NVME drive to dissipate heat.

It’s clearly a burned toast

Looks like a cover to the ssd or ram.

It’s a part of the heatsink on the side of your laptop. I have a piece like that myself, it fell off because i was prying the bottom lid open but was not careful enough. I hate clamshell from asus.

Looks like a copper heatsink, make sure all your heatsinks are on your board and the big heatsink you pulled off has all its pieces, I had a plate for the cpu fall off a copper heatsink, got some of that copper weld stuff and glued it back on, has been fine.

Looks like your magic smoke generator. Might be worn, replace soon.

That’s a copper heatsink fin. The black stuff is paint, you can see where it didn’t reach between the fins. Remove it and you’ll be fine as long as it hasn’t shorted anything yet.
airyrice
This piece of metal does not look like it needs to be there, and judging by the fact that it appears severely burned, it must have shorted something. As others have said, you’re lucky it still works. Better lay that piece of copper aside for now though.

I thought it was a piece of wood with over spray at first glance

The sticker that says the warranty is void if you open the case.
Some form of shielding and from the looks of it, it looks like it did its job
Looks like bacon. Taste it and let us know!
I’d remove it.
