This benchmark tests Counter-Strike 2, the successor to CSGO (Global Offensive), for GPU performance across a few maps and a lot of video cards. One of our primary areas of interest for this game has been frametime pacing. Although not too bad overall on our systems, the occasional hitches we did encounter were often large or noticeable even as one-offs. We spend a bit of time exploring those, but also talk about the difference of test environments with smoke grenades, incendiary grenades, or just firefights. We ultimately settled on a benchmark scene that involved smoke grenades for about half the benchmark, with a mix of traversal and firefights for the other half. This represents the average player’s round pretty well. Testing included cards like the NVIDIA RTX 4090, RTX 4080, AMD RX 7900 XTX, 7800 XT, and plenty of prior generation cards, like the GTX 1650, GTX 1060, and so on. Intel Arc was also tested for the A750 and A770.

Question: What's the overall feel for CS2 vs. GO? We've been so busy testing we haven't played much. How are you all liking it? On testing: We're pretty happy with how our test area came out (in terms of including some smoke grenades, normal play, traversal, etc.), so we'll probably use that for CPUs as well if we get around to them — might not be until our 14th Gen benchmarks though! If not before then, we should definitely have CS2 testing in our next big CPU reviews. If that interests you and we don't run a standalone CPU test piece on this game, check back for those reviews to get it!

The frametime variance is definitely a large contributor to mouse aim feeling inconsistent and sluggish. It just doesn't feel the same as csgo on the exact same sensitivity, even if you match cs2's forced raw input.
Kitties
Yeah smoke doesn't work like that. It is not "minecraft destructible blocks" it is "fluid flow dynamics"…
Wow reviews b3nxhmarks on a completely shit old game. A Nvidia 670 would run this at hundreds of fps. This game is trash and for kids like roblox. Bench the world's largest fps cod mw2 or bf or squads or any new title. No1 cares about stupid cs. This is literally bottom of the barrel "I need a video out today" content. Might as well play with a controller on PC and use built in auto aim and claim you're a great player on tiktok bs. Why isn't there one fucking YouTuber that benches any of these new titles? I don't mean some lame no name. I mean GN or Jay or Linus or TH or any big content creator…. is there some sort of agreement that they aren't allowed? Who in the actual fucking hell has a 20, 30 or even 40 series card and pkays this 12 year old little kiddie shit….
Wow. The 4070 kind of sucks comparatively to other cards in this game.
I think AMD updated the driver before they finished the video
I literally will not play the game until the stutter is fixed. 0.7 sec lockup is unbelievable
Literally Fred Flinstone's car has more parts than CS right now… game is huge mess
I wanted a Rivatuner style overlay on top of CS2 so i can look at over-time graph of my frametimes but i can't get rivatuner to hook into CS2(probably same issue OBS can't capture the game, only the screen/window). Anyone know any fix or other software?
Valve really said, “I like what Blizzard did to Overwatch. Do the same thing.”
It would be nice to measure input lag latency, because in cs2 it is much higher than csgo even if you have 200+ fps
I'm having a lot of stutterings in CS2. I have a 7900XTX and 7800x3D. Csgo ran smooth but in CS2 is being annoying. Looks like this happens more with AMD gpus. Looking forward for this fix, so I can really enjoy the game.
wasted my ROG 360Hz monitor 🤣 4090 max 339fps average at 1080p
Csgo2 is still alpha build. No where near an actual working game. They forced us into it so they could make more money on skins.
CS2 is a reskin of cs:go. It retains all of your purchases and skins and you'd think that that means it would run the same but no it runs like ass. Just loading up dust2 in CT spawn I get 10 fps where as on cs:go I'd get over 200fps. After the match has started it goes up to 60fps. I know my CPU is old but this is CS:go with better smoke effects. For the slight changes in graphics quality it's a complete joke of an "upgrade". Uninstalled it 10 min after installing.
In csgo, you could really feel it when dipping below 200FPS. CS2 does seem to be feel smoother even with lower fps.
In CSGO I had 400-600 fps… with a frickin vega 56…. and ryzen 5800x… the CPU was the one that gave me the most fps improvement over the previous 1700x…
The long frame time spikes seem to be during shader compiling during gameplay after new drivers and game updates. There also seems to be an AMD bug where it compiles the shaders in game every time you load up the game, not just after driver and game updates. there are many threads on the CSGO reddit about it.
How does the online function of the game affect performance. There has to be telemetry data sent across the internet to tell you how that guy 1000 miles away from you is moving on the map. What happens when that telemetry data gets delayed? Does the game try to compensate for slight delays so everyone stays in sync
I can’t wait to see the change in this data in like 6 months when the game isn’t completely broken
I bought CS:GO years ago, it wasn't F2P when I paid for it. They removed all my favourite game modes. And now the stuff I paid for is gone… really ridiculous move from valve
The game has a lot of wrinkles right now that need to be ironed out as in A lot of bugs that need to be patched
Those frame timing issues will be destructive to competitive gameplay.
volvo pls
Same game, harder to run… we're going backwards.
If any other company deleted their competitive shooter and replaced it with something this busted they'd get a metaphorical B-site retake done to them, I hope people rake Valve over the coals for this
I have a 3090 and kinda hoped to see it on the charts
I had this stutters too, i noticed whenever they happened this appeard in the console "[Shooting] cl: ReadFrameInput – Presented data has no mod info", problem solved itself and the message dissapeared from console.
CS2 is literally unplayable for me due to frametimes. There's something seriously wrong. CS2 ran better before i upgraded from my GTX1070 to a RX 7800XT. I have microstutter every second like you said in the video.
Well, shite! 790 mobo,2×48 gb ram at 8000 Mt + , Intel 13900ks, Asus Rog strix Oc 4090.. highly oc and custom liquid cooled on all , make these numbers even at 4 k res, look anemic! And I’m not much of gamer! My use case is more video/photo/3d print, then more general use, finally gaming least of all of my usage! Binning of products, and choice of LC
custom cooling and tuning of each make these results look poor/anemic! Much luv from Tokyo,Japan! However it is very difficult too find hardware/software/oc on what I use and my usage of it! Even on my least powerful hardware! ( nvidia Quadrortx-8000, Amd 5975 x 32 core/64 thread and ddr 5 ram at 6400mt minimum.. custom cooled are my usual builds, and /or equivalent of!I had some significant stutters at the beginning of a match on a map. I wasn't part of the limited tests. I figured it was some kind of asset loading/caching or something that shaders just didn't do well at the start. I would also get those 1/7 second drops in some action which disproved that.
I turned on FSR in AMD Adrenaline and turned off their overlay I forgot was on. Overall I think FSR did the trick. Been playing on a 4k tv at 1080p so not really overdriving my RX 6750 XT. Game set to Ultra Quality, rest on high or recommended defaults
Great lighting
most be a new Camera
This is exactly what we saw before valve took over development completely from hidden path. It’s going to take a while for it to feel and perform as well as it should. Source players were angry in 2013 let me tell you, seems to be less of that as there are just hundreds of thousands more players drowning out the whiners. “Wahhh it’s still a beta, wahhh where’s my go .exe?”
Anyways Great Video.
One thing worth noting for anyone looking for more FPS. Reduce the Anti Aliasing setting. I have a 7800x3d and a 4080 and went from averaging 300 fps at 1440p to 450 when I went from 8x MSAA to 4x MSAA
Would be interesting to see a Cpu comparison and whether the frame time issue is ralated to Intel CPU's as my 5800x3d + 2080ti doesn't seem to be producing those massive spikes, possibly smaller ones around 50 ms though.
I've been playing CS2 on Linux, and haven't noticed any frame pacing issues. Can you do some Linux benchmarks?
FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY
15:54 I'm just going to say, people who use a 4:3 aspect ratio on a 16:9 LCD display competitively, are morons.
Feels bad.
The scaling at 1080p maxed settings from 100fps on a GTX 1060 to well over 300fps on top GPUs before getting CPU bottlenecked suggests overall good optimization. As long as they fix those occasional frametime spikes..
Would a frame cap solve these stutter problems?
rip csgo. I would really love to play csgo right now. if ya change a game that much, just keep the previous version alive. eg. cod anything.
This is the 1st time i've noticed the monitor wall being used for more than mostly gn logos. I like it!
1280×960 stretched with most settings mid to low is how most pros play anyways so in practice there should be even more FPS. If things are really rough just copy the settings Snax uses.
Its funny cause it actually just runs better on linux, probably due in part to the steamdeck. Im not like you guys but I tested on the same hardware on fresh installs and linux frametimes were far more consistent, would love to a more indepth a out that dynamic for this game!
